Our Roots & Heritage

The Legacy of Mark Bingham

In 2000, Mark Bingham helped establish the SF Fog as the first gay rugby club on the West Coast. On September 11, 2001, Mark and fellow passengers heroically fought back against hijackers aboard United Flight 93, protecting countless lives in Washington D.C.

In his honor, the biennial Mark Kendall Bingham Memorial Tournament (The Bingham Cup) was founded in 2002. Today, it is the largest amateur rugby tournament in the world, uniting over 80 clubs across 20 countries.
